MAINTENANCE
Ride Safely
LCD Screen
FIXED SCREEN
LCD screen and bracket are one unit. Do not over-tighten bracket arms or they will crack and may require replacing the screen.
The LCD screen is splash proof, NOT waterproof. We do not recommend traveling in the rain with the screen left uncovered.
- Avoid keeping a display outside/uncovered (dew & condensation).
- Keep a Ziplock bag w/ rubber band (zip tie for travel) for rain protection.
- Broken brackets & water damage is not covered by warranty.
REMOVABLE SCREEN
The screen is a matched set (Screen/Base). The display is splash proof, but the units are NOT waterproof. We do not recommend traveling in the rain with the screen and/or base left uncovered.
- Avoid keeping a display and/or base outside/uncovered (dew & condensation).
- Keep a Ziplock bag w/ rubber band (zip tie for travel) for base rain protection.
CLEANING
CLEANING
Avoid using water whenever possible. We Recommend Using Waterless Detail Spray.
- Always clean/lube after riding on the beach (never ride in saltwater).
- Clean a minimum of once per month, more as needed with frequent riding.
- Use a large, soft paint brush (or soft towel) to remove excess sand and dirt.
- Spray/Wipe down with a “waterless” detail product (avoid brake disc rotors).
LUBRICATION
LUBRICATION
We recommend Finish Line “One-Step” lubricant. This product cleans and leaves a Teflon-based (dry) lubricant with each application.
- Apply monthly (minimum), more often if commuting or frequent riding.
- Apply after you clean the bike, if the bike gets wet, or has been on the beach.
- Apply to the chain, sprocket, cassette (gears), derailleur, and related hardware.
- If you have folding pedals, don’t forget the internal pedal springs.
- Do not apply lubricant to brake rotors or electrical components.
- Avoid lights, leather, and rubber.
TIRE CARE
TIRE CARE
Bicycle tires contain a low volume of air (compared to car tires). Swings in temperature will cause tires to lose 30-50% of their pressure in relatively short periods of time. Properly inflated tires (within 5% of maximum pressure) will provide a safe, comfortable ride.
- Check tire pressure weekly (min) or prior to each ride.
- Look for Pounds Per Square Inch (PSI) Max Pressure.
- Keep tires within 5% of the MAX PSI to extend tire life.
The chart below includes the typical pressure for each Mokwheel model. Remember to ALWAYS check your tires for minimum / maximum pressure (PSI) limits before adding air (tire manufacturer pressure can vary). We do not recommend exceeding 50PSI for any standard tube regardless of what the maximum pressure listed is (tubes will be stressed and more susceptible to going flat).
- Scoria: 20PSI or 30PSI
- Basalt: 20PSI or 30PSI
- Obsidian: 20PSI or 30PSI
- Slate: 40PSI
- Granite: 40 PSI
- Asphalt: 50 PSI
CHARGING
BATTERY CHARGING
- Only use the original bike charger.
- Do not leave your battery on a charger overnight.
- Use a timer as a reminder when to take the battery off the charger.
- Lithium-Ion batteries will last longer with regular use and charging.
- Do Not leave your battery with low or no charge for extended periods.
- Leaving low (or no charge) may result in “sleep mode” (battery damage).
- During a charging cycle the battery should be in a dry environment.
Avoid extreme temperatures.
- Keep battery above freezing, and no hotter than 110 deg Fahrenheit.
- If you keep bike in your garage, make sure it is well-ventilated and/or opened daily.
- If your garage is kept closed take bike and/or battery inside or to a ventilated space.
Charge your battery when capacity is below 50%
- Your battery prefers to be “exercised” (used and charged regularly).
- The “ideal” target range for charging is less than 50%, but not empty.
- An occasional full charge or top off is ok but should be the exception, not the rule.
Charge your battery in a cool, dry environment.
- Set a timer to be reminded to take charger off power.
- Charge time can vary – typically 1 hour charging for each 2.5 Ah required.
- Example: 20AH at 50% capacity will require approximately 4 hours charge time.
- The charger will get hot when in use, so place it on an appropriate surface.
- Always plug the charger into the bike before plugging into an outlet (reverse when done).
- The charger light will glow red when charging (green when complete).
TRAVEL
TRAVEL
Batteries can be left in your bicycle for short, local trips.
- We recommend removing the battery for longer (multi-state) travel.
- TIP: Cover empty battery slots with plastic wrap to keep out trash.
LCD screens should be covered (or removed) when traveling.
- We recommend covering your screen with bag/tie wrap for longer trips.
Consider a cargo strap around bikes/rack for long trips.
STORAGE
STORAGE
Your bike should be stored in a cool, dry place.
Batteries should be charged at least once per month.
- Batteries left for extended periods may fall become damaged and be unable to charge afterwards.
- It is best to make arrangements with someone to charge battery if away for extended period.
- Batteries store longest when at 50% charge (outside of bike).
