CLEANING
CLEANING
Avoid using water whenever possible.
- Clean a minimum of once per month, more as needed with frequent riding.
- Use a large, soft paint brush (or soft towel) to remove excess sand and dirt.
- We Recommend cleaning with a Waterless Detail Spray.
- Spray/Wipe down with a “waterless” detail product (avoid brake disc rotors).
- Detail spray cleans, neutralizes, and leaves a wax finish.
If your bike is extremely dirty (or full of sand from a beach ride) you may not have a choice but to rinse your bike with fresh water.
- After a water rinse towel dry to remove excess water.
- Use detail spray to finish the cleaning process.
- Spray/Wipe down with a “waterless” detail product (avoid brake disc rotors).
- Detail spray cleans, neutralizes, and leaves a wax finish.
- Always re-apply lubricant whenever water is used (or bike is rained on).
LUBRICATION
LUBRICATION
We recommend Finish Line “One-Step” lubricant. This product cleans and leaves a Teflon-based (dry) lubricant with each application.
- Apply monthly (minimum), more often if commuting or frequent riding.
- Apply after you clean the bike, if the bike gets wet, or has been on the beach.
- Apply to the chain, sprocket, cassette (gears), derailleur, and related hardware.
- If you have folding pedals, don’t forget the internal pedal springs.
- Do not apply lubricant to brake rotors or electrical components.
- Avoid lights, leather, and rubber.
TIRE CARE
TIRE CARE
Bicycle tires are low air volume (compared to car tires). Swings in temperature will cause tires to lose 30-50% of their pressure in relatively short periods of time. Keeping your tires inflated within 5% of the maximum and/or target pressure will provide a safe, comfortable ride.
- Check tire pressure weekly or prior to each ride.
- Look for Pounds Per Square Inch (PSI) Max Pressure.
- Keep tires within 5% of the MAX PSI to extend tire life.
The chart below includes the typical pressure for each Mokwheel model. NOTE: ALWAYS check your tires for minimum / maximum pressure (PSI) limits before adding air (tire manufacturer pressure can vary).
We do not recommend exceeding 55PSI for any standard inner tube regardless of maximum tire pressure. Exceeding 55PSI can stress tubes, making them more susceptible to failure.
- Obsidian, Basalt, Scoria
- 20PSI or 30PSI
- Pressure varies with manufacturer
- Slate: 40PSI
- Granite: 40 PSI
- Tarmac/Asphalt: 55 PSI
CHARGING
BATTERY CHARGING
- Only use the original bike charger.
- Charge your battery at least once per month.
- Do not leave your battery on a charger overnight.
- Keep battery above freezing, and no hotter than 110 deg Fahrenheit.
- During a charging cycle the battery should be in a dry environment.
- Lithium-Ion batteries will last longer with regular use and charging.
- Do Not leave your battery with low or no charge for extended periods.
- Leaving low (or no charge) may result in “sleep mode” (battery damage).
- The charger will get hot when in use, so place it on an appropriate surface.
- If you keep bike in your garage, make sure it is well-ventilated and/or opened daily.
- If your garage is kept closed take bike and/or battery inside or to a ventilated space.
Charge your battery when capacity is below 50%
An occasional full charge or top off is ok but should be the exception, not the rule.
- Use a timer as a reminder when to take the battery off the charger.
- The “ideal” target range for charging is less than 50%, but not empty.
- Charge time can vary – typically 1 hour charging for each 2.5 Ah required.
- Typical Charge Times:
- 20Ah = 5-6 Hours
- 15Ah = 4-5 Hours
- Always plug the charger into the bike before plugging into an outlet (reverse when done).
- The charger light will glow red when charging (green when complete).
- The LED light will sometimes remain red when charging is complete.
LCD SCREEN
REMOVABLE SCREEN
Screen + Base = Matched Pair (screen and base have chips with matched software).
- The removable screen and the base are attached to are a matched set (Screen/Base).
- If you own more than one bike with the same display you should mark them to ensure the pairs remain together.
- DO NOT MIX/MATCH SCREEN AND BASE UNITS.
The screen and base are splash proof, NOT waterproof.
- We do not recommend traveling in the rain with the screen/base left uncovered.
- Avoid keeping a display outside/uncovered (dew & condensation).
- Keep a Ziplock bag w/ rubber band (zip tie for travel) for rain protection.
- Water damage is not covered by warranty.
FIXED SCREEN
LCD screen and bracket are one unit.
- Do not over-tighten bracket arms or they will crack and may require replacing the screen.
- Broken brackets are not covered by your warranty.
The screen is splash proof, NOT waterproof.
- We do not recommend traveling in the rain with the screen left uncovered.
- Avoid keeping a display outside/uncovered (dew & condensation).
- Keep a Ziplock bag w/ rubber band (zip tie for travel) for rain protection.
- Water damage is not covered by warranty.
TRAVEL & STORAGE
TRAVEL
Batteries can be left in your bicycle for short, local trips.
- We recommend removing the battery for longer (multi-state) travel.
- TIP: Cover empty battery slots with plastic wrap to keep out trash.
LCD screens should be covered when traveling.
- We recommend covering your screen with bag/tie wrap for longer trips.
Consider a cargo strap around bikes/rack for long trips.
STORAGE
Your bike should be stored in a cool, dry place.
Batteries should be charged at least once per month.
- Batteries left for extended periods may fall become damaged and be unable to charge afterwards.
- It is best to make arrangements with someone to charge battery if away for extended period.
- Batteries store longest when at 50% charge (outside of bike).
